Obama raises $52 Million in June

2008 July 17

Talk of voters growing less confident about – or comfortable with – Senator Barack Obama’s campaign message seems to have been premature. In the month of June, to the chagrin of pundits suggesting the bloom was off the rose for the Obama campaign, donors contributed $52 million to support Obama’s candidacy.

Arguably even more impressive than the total dollar figure is the sheer number of people involved, including many first-time donors, contributing amounts they could justify and afford despite rising fuel and food prices. The average donation to Obama during June was just $68.

U.S. Senator Barack Obama

The McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee finished June with nearly $100 million in the bank. The Obama campaign and the DNC ended June with a combined total of under $72 million in the bank – meaning Obama’s donors are going to need to keep up the pace to support the 50-state strategy financially.

The natural lull in donations as the primaries wound to a conclusion seems to be at and end. Obama’s gaining momentum, and the staggering number of donors participating on Obama’s behalf each month is indicative of just how urgently the grassroots citizens of the USA seek changes to “business as usual” inside the Washington Beltway – changes that Barack Obama seems uniquely willing and qualified to spearhead.

I suggest that Obama challenge McCain to a game of one-on-one basketball for the presidency. Then they can donate all of a campaign contributions to solving the fiscal crisis.
