Setting the record straight: Obama on Energy
Jon Ralston offers Senator Barack Obama the perfect opening to address recent misrepresentations, or perhaps more charitably misinterpretations, of his stated positions on Energy. For instance, despite being open minded and pragmatic about how to attain his goals, regarding drilling for oil in environmentally sensitive areas he reiterated, “We can’t drill our way out of the problem.” We’ve got to focus on alternative energy sources.
Ralston does his best to attack Obama with opposition talking points framed as questions, but Obama is not to be dominated by a talking head while he answers clearly and thoroughly – which is obviously not what Ralston hoped for. The challenge for his detractors is to find ways to reduce him to sound-bites they can use out of context. Obama makes short work of illuminating the differences between himself and John McCain, and briefly reminds viewers that his energy plan is part of a larger view that includes the economy, while pointing out Ralston’s bias and managing the infamously disrespectful interview style.
