Activists are prevailing despite insurance industry lobbyists and influence « sites that don't derive income from particular advertisers (that might tend to bend their reporting angles) reveal that Senator Lieberman has accepted more than $1 million in campaign contributions from the insurance, which the so-called elite, liberal media is not reporting. This suggests the media is, in fact, mostly right-wing and anti-reform.

Perhaps Shakespeare was anticipating the curious struggle on behalf of Single-Payer health care systems, and the activists growing weary of the long battle, when he penned:

"Our doubts are traitors And make us lose the good we oft might win By fearing to attempt."

The American Dream is under assault at the state and federal level.

Taxation to accomplish the legitimate goals of federal and state government initiatives must be fairly distributed. Defining the necessary changes to tax codes is a daunting prospect even if it’s separated pragmatically from debating the role of government to expedite resolving budget crises.

Considering higher taxes on the wealthy hardly constitutes class warfare, let alone an unfair burden.

The hullabaloo on social networking sites and at Fox suggests that it's either

1) useful to somebody to draw attention to Fox network's "we're just victims of a powerful president" posture/narrative/story-line, or

2) useful to somebody to keep Fox upset and unbalanced.

Sure, it's free speech at Fox. We get that.

But we have to grant that there are fairly savvy people in both Murdoch's empire and the White House (albeit these are very different sorts of organizations.) So just who benefits - or profits - from this being the story du jour?

I saw the observation elsewhere that in USA one of the phrases that echoes through everybody's unconscious is "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" as the reason for people getting riled up when Fox seems to be exploiting the first amendment in pursuit of ratings by distorting what they "report" in ways that resemble news programs on other networks.

That basic wrongness irks a lot of people, while the mimicry fools others. I'd say what resonates most strongly with the collective American psyche is a desire for fairness. Those colonists didn't revolt against taxes, remember, they revolted against taxation without representation.

So as arrogant as it may sound, the folks on the "left" may well be upset with Murdoch's group for what they see as duping their neighbors on the "right" more than they are about his profits and/or his willingness to exploit the decision reported above.

No, I'm sure he's not alone, and I know racism isn't a white-only challenge by any means. Still, whatever their reasons, I remain of the opinion that we are better served by moving forward - that we are stronger when we see better our similarities and focus on what we can create united.

The Justice of the peace in Louisiana is not the only one who doesn’t believe in interracial marriage. Many black women and black mothers don’t want their sons dating or marrying other races, especially white. My mother felt that way growing up.

Most of us understand that we've far from overcome the lingering, emotional "not like me ism," the "stick to your own kind" mindset of those who insist they aren't racist, but continue to act and speak as though skin color is the most important distinguishing feature of any human being.
